Diving in the Isles of Scilly

A birds-eye-view of some of the islands

It's difficult to describe what it feels like to be on islands so tiny they barely show up on a map. The moment the helicopter lands you can really feel you are on a small island. There is sea all around and there are very few cars. The whole pace of life in the Scilly Isles is extremely different to anywhere else on mainland Britain. It took me quite a while to adjust! If you live somewhere where you can hear a car virtually every 30 seconds at least, then you won't believe how quiet it is there. The air is clean and all you can hear is the cry of birds and the sound of the sea.

Adjusting to the pace is purely individual. I know a friend who has been going to Tresco (an island in the Scillies) for 11 years! He adjusts instantly and says there is almost nowhere else in the UK that is so naturally close to perfection. Believe me, there is NO crime on the Scillies and there are only 2 Policemen with one Police Car! People leave their houses unlocked and leave their bagage lying around. It would be terrible to see criminality creep into the Scilly Isles.
